10 Tips To Make Your Skin Look Younger And Brighter

10 Tips To Make Your Skin Look Younger And Brighter

While most of us wish to age like fine wine, doing so can seem difficult. The truth is maintaining a healthy, youthful appearance is possible, and we are here to spill the beans by sharing 10 tips to make your skin look younger and brighter.

Aging is a fact of life. Looking your age is not
The process of aging is inevitable, but there is some control we do have over how our skin ages. A person's skin transforms as they age. In time, collagen production slows down, and the skin thins and loses its elasticity, making it appear less supple. Pesky wrinkles from facial expressions like smiling or squinting eventually become more profound, and deep creases turn to permanent wrinkles.

Even though these are natural processes, there are many things you can do to help your skin age gracefully.

You can achieve a more youthful, radiant complexion with a few simple changes to your skin care routine and lifestyle habits. This article will explore the best tips and tricks for making your skin look younger and brighter.

So, let's dive in and discover the secrets to youthful skin!

Establish A Consistent Skincare Routine For Your Age
A consistent skincare routine is key to achieving a youthful, radiant complexion. But remember that the skincare routine that worked in your 20s or 30s may no longer serve you as your skin changes.

You may need a gentler cleanser and a more powerful moisturizer. You might also find that incorporating cosmetic treatments into your skincare regimen helps you feel your best in your skin – which is the true secret to aging gracefully.

You’ll also want to be careful when applying your skincare. Rubbing aggressively causes an inflammatory response underneath the skin, which can aggravate skin conditions and cause premature aging. There is a technique on how to properly apply your skincare, like a cleanser in a CIRCULAR motion or patting your serums and creams.

Why Regular Exfoliation Helps You Look Younger, Barbies Beauty Bits

Regular Exfoliation Helps You Look Younger

With age, skin renewal slows down. A slow rate of cell replacement causes dull, dry skin increasing the signs of aging appearance. Exfoliating regularly is another important step in achieving younger-looking, brighter skin. Not only does exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells, but it unclogs pores and promotes cell turnover, resulting in a more even skin tone and smoother texture

Look for a gentle exfoliating product that's suitable for your skin type, and use it once or twice a week to avoid irritation.

Physical and chemical exfoliators, such as alpha hydroxy acids, are available for at-home use. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion, however, are treatments that can be administered in a medical office. These treatments can provide more powerful, long-lasting results for younger-looking skin.

Exercise Regularly For Younger-Looking Skin
Regular exercise is not only good for our overall health, but it can also help to promote healthy skin. Exercise promotes circulation, which can help to deliver essential nutrients and oxygen to the skin, resulting in a more radiant complexion. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise each day whether it's a brisk walk, a yoga class, or a trip to the gym.

SPF Is Your BFF
There are certain factors that influence wrinkle development - facial expressions and gravity, for example. On the other hand, premature aging skin from sun damage is one controllable culprit. Try to limit the amount of time you spend in the sun during peak hours (usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.).

Apply sunscreen regardless of the weather. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher should be applied every two hours.

Protecting your skin from sun exposure is one of the most important things you can do to delay aging process. Aside from premature wrinkles, exposure to UV rays can cause damage to the skin, leading to age spots and uneven skin tone.

Try Testosterone Replacement Therapy
Men need skincare too, as last we looked, they have skin! And a treatment you should consider for aging skin is testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).

TRT replaces the testosterone your body no longer produces with a synthetic hormone to promote more youthful-looking skin. Testosterone replacement therapy advancements help to improve skin elasticity, making it firmer and more supple. Also, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin, making skin look smoother and younger.

However, this is a serious medical treatment. So you should speak to a healthcare professional before deciding if it's right for you.

Stay Hydrated For Healthy Skin
Dry skin is a common issue that develops with age since the skin produces less sebum over time. When dehydrated, your skin can appear dull and tired, and fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent.

To combat dehydrated skin, drink plenty of water throughout the day. Consider using a hydrating serum or moisturizer with a high-quality gemstone facial roller to boost the effectiveness of your products, while locking in moisture and keeping your skin looking plump and dewy.

Keeping your skin hydrated is a crucial step in anti-aging to help maintain a youthful, radiant complexion.

Avoid Smoking and Excessive Alcohol Consumption
Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively impact the health and appearance of our skin. Smoking can cause premature aging, wrinkles, and a dull complexion, while excessive alcohol consumption can lead to dehydration, puffiness, and an uneven skin tone. To promote a more youthful, radiant complexion, try to avoid smoking (this includes vaping) and limit alcohol consumption.

Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet
What we eat can have a big impact on the health and appearance of our skin. Eat a healthy, balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and healthy fatty acids to promote a youthful, radiant complexion. These foods contain essential vitamins and nutrients that can help to nourish and protect your skin from the inside out.

Get Your Beauty Sleep
One factor that many don't take seriously enough is one of the easiest to control... beauty sleep!

Several studies have shown that sleep deprivation inhibits skin barrier recovery. Too little sleep can lead to dryness, irritation, breakouts, and flaking, eventually leading to wrinkles. Add that to dark circles, bags, swollen eyes, and other signs of a poor night's sleep, and you got yourself a recipe for premature aging.

When we sleep, our skin shifts into repair mode, like making new collagen, which prevents sagging. Collagen makes skin plumper and less prone to wrinkles. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep each night. Consider using an antiaging pillow to prevent sleep wrinkles and minimize damage to your skin while you sleep.

And did you know that sleeping with a traditional pillow is one of the leading causes of premature wrinkles, number 2 after UV exposure? You see, the average head weighs 11 lbs, and when you are pressing your face into a plush fluffy pillow for thousands of hours per year, it is like ironing folds, creases, and wrinkles into the skin. It makes you double-think that anti-aging pillow, doesn't it?

To Sum It Up
As you can see, youthful, radiant complexion is within your reach. The goal is to protect your skin from damage and nurture it from within. Gentleness and patience are key. Aging skin doesn't happen overnight, nor do the results. But with consistency and dedication, you can achieve the glowing, youthful complexion you've dreamed of.

Eight Ways To Upgrade Your Skincare Routine

Eight Ways To Upgrade Your Skincare Routine, Barbies Beauty Bits

New Year, New You; eight ways to upgrade your skincare routine by Barbie's Beauty Bits.

You can continually improve your skincare routine no matter how healthy your skin is. While beauty trends come and go, some skincare advice stands the test of time, and it can truly transform how your skin looks and feels.

There are several ways to step up your skincare game, from double-cleansing and shaving your face to using led light therapy and adding antioxidants to your routine. We are sharing our 8 top ways to improve your skincare game, so continue reading.

How To Improve Your Skincare Routine: 8 Top Tips

Look At The Ingredients In Your Skincare

Many people are aware of clean makeup and will read up on reviews like Clean Beauty mascara review. But what many need to realize is that the same approach to skincare is a healthy one.

For some skincare obsessives, a product isn't working unless it's tingling or burning, which is not how it works. You want to avoid irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Products that irritate are unsafe for the skin and usually contain toxic ingredients like sulfates, which are essentially detergents.

Parabens are another ingredient to avoid. Parabens are a synthetic preservative. They don't just cause health problems but also contribute to premature skin aging since they increase sensitivity to the sun.

On the same token, all-natural skincare doesn't always work. The key is a balance of the right antioxidants, which brings us to our next tip.

why-you-need-antioxidants-in-skincare-barbies-beauty-bits

Add Antioxidants To Your Skincare Routine

In a nutshell, antioxidants protect the body against the harmful effects of oxidative stress caused by environmental factors like UV rays, makeup, unhealthy diets, and pollution.

Oxidative stress on the skin can lead to damage. Causing a breakdown in collagen, which leads to fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and dark spots, which result in premature aging.

In skincare, antioxidants are critical because they help limit free radical production and neutralize them when they enter the skin. As a result, they play a vital role in skincare.

Vitamin C, E, and retinol are examples of antioxidants.

Use Skincare Products With Vitamin C In Them

Vitamin C, also known as L-Ascorbic Acid, is a highly effective antioxidant that protects against free radicals by neutralizing them. Vitamin C is one of the most effective antioxidants and a critical ingredient that aids anti-aging.

Vitamin C is a game-changer in getting brighter, younger-looking skin. This water-soluble antioxidant is a natural component of healthy skin. The younger we are, the more vitamin C we have on our skin. But as we get older, we lose these nutrients over time.

Luckily, skincare products, like a vitamin c serum, can help lessen this damage, so the skin looks healthier and radiant. Vitamin C is an ingredient that should be part of everyone's skincare routine—regardless of age or skin type.

It's known and loved for its brightening and anti-aging abilities. Dermatologists also tout it as one of the most potent protective antioxidants to help reduce skin inflammation and irregular pigmentation while promoting healthy collagen production.

Reduce The Signs Of Aging With A Facial Massage

Fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots are a part of aging. But with a facial massage, you can lighten your appearance and keep your skin youthful.

My favorite facial massage is a guasha facial! It is a highly effective technique to lift, shape, and contour the face. When performed regularly and correctly, this skincare technique will improve circulation, tissue health, and facial muscle strength, reduce puffiness, lessen the appearance of fine lines, and soften skin.

This will leave your skin looking more youthful, toned, and glowing naturally.

Double Cleanse Your Skin

We tend to follow the "wash and repeat" method when washing our hair. But what about a lather-rinse-repeat of skincare?

The anti-aging step that you should never skip is washing the face. And a double cleanse is a way to step up your face-cleansing game!

A double cleanse involves washing your face in two steps: an oil-based cleanser followed by a cleanser.

adding-red-light-therapy-to-your-skincare-routine-barbies-beauty-bits

Introduce Red Light Therapy Into Your Skincare Routine

Let there be light; for your skin that is, with Led Light Therapy. According to WebMD, light therapy "uses skin-safe, low-level light in different wavelengths and colors." These rays penetrate the skin barrier to provide a range of skin benefits, from better skin tone, and even texture, to added firmness and more tightness.

At-home versions are gentler on the skin because the bulbs are not as intense. That's good because it enables you to use these devices for anti-aging and skin healing without going to a spa. One of my favorite places for these devices is the Currentbody, which has the best at-home led-therapy masks.

Vow To Shave Your Face For Younger Looking Skin

The desquamation process slows down as we age, meaning that our bodies produce and shed old skin cells more slowly.

Shaving your face is one of the most effective techniques for exfoliating the skin and speeding up cell turnover. And no it does not make you grow facial hair, that is an urban myth.

Shaving Your Face Helps To:

  • Rid dead skin cells
  • Improve your skin tone and texture
  • Promote cellular turnover
  • Diminish fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimizes the appearance of age spots and other sun damage
  • Gently exfoliates to even out skin tone and texture
  • Unclog and reduce the appearance of pore size
  • Stimulate blood flow to help improve the skin's elasticity
  • Can apply makeup flawlessly
  • Offer better penetration of your skincare products, like your SPF 30 or glycolic acids

Mask Mapping: Multi-Masking

One size does not fit all, which also comes to skincare. Everyone's skin features its very own personality, with specific needs, individual concerns, and personal likes and dislikes. Enter Mask Mapping...

Instead of applying the same mask to your entire face, there is a better approach called mask mapping. This technique allows you to use multiple face masks for different areas of your face for a customized treatment that checks all your anti-aging needs!

In this case, a facial mask is a vital addition to any skincare routine. There are countless options no matter if you suffer from irritated skin, pimples, blackheads, or anything else, you can find the best mix for you.

So there you have it beauties eight ways to upgrade your skincare routine, so you will be glowing in 2023!

Beauty Treatments To Restore Your Skin’s Beauty

Beauty Treatments To Restore Your Skin’s Beauty, Barbies Beauty Bits

With the warmer amongst us, it's time to give your skin a fresh new look for Spring. The Winter weather can cause our skin to look older, so with Spring in the air, I think it is time to restore your skin's beauty, and we at Barbie's Beauty Bits are here to help.

While wrinkles and fine lines are unwelcome signs of the aging process, they are not the only things that make your skin look older. Several telltale signs of aging winter skin can undoubtedly impact our youthful glow. From dead skin cells, dry skin, to uneven skin tone, sun damage, even broken capillaries all contribute to the appearance of aging skin.

Hence it's no wonder our skin needs a blossoming glow of a few rejuvenating skincare treatments to restore the skin's beauty.

So without further ado, here are some of my top beauty treatments to restore your skin's beauty.

Step 1: Vow To Exfoliate For Smoother Youthful Skin

All the things that can keep your skin from looking smooth, glowing, and radiant, dead skin cells are at the top of this list. Which is why this is the first step to restoring your skin's beauty.

Before we get into some of the treatments, let's discuss these pesky dead skin cells as they really are a pain in the you know what!

Did you know that somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000 skin cells die every minute! Yes, it can be a good thing because it allows fresh, new younger cells to surface. BUT, and of course, you knew there would be a but, the problem is that most people leave those nasty dead skin cells lying around, like dry, dead leaves. Turning your face into a mini skin cell graveyard. And the scary thing is these dead skin cells can clog pores and cause false wrinkles, making your complexion appear much older than it is. All by your own accord!

different-types-of face-exfoliants-barbies-beauty-bits

So the answer...Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the key to brighter, smoother skin and one of the most convenient and effective ways to teach the skin to act younger. There are a few different ways to exfoliate, and let’s have a look at them.

Physical Exfoliators
Physical exfoliators use a tiny physical object to scrub dead skin away, and this could include coffee grounds, sugar, charcoal, and even clay to slough away those dead skin cells. These exfoliators are usually on the milder side to gently exfoliate skin and help improve tone, texture, and clarity to reveal brighter, more radiant skin.

Chemical Exfoliators
While the word “chemical” might be a bit misleading, no worries, as these types of exfoliators are perfectly safe to use. This term actually refers to Chemical exfoliants formulated with skincare ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs.

Not only can exfoliating with a chemical peel such as from The Ordinary help to turn back the clock on aging skin, but they can also reverse some of the natural processes that contribute to facial aging.

Mechanical Exfoliators
Again these words sound scary. But this term refers to some tools like an exfoliating brush, where there are bristles that are used on the face to remove layers of dead skin cells for skin rejuvenation

No matter which form of exfoliation you choose, you want to ensure that you do not overdo it as there can be bad side effects. If you exfoliate the skin too often, the skin’s barrier function can become compromised creating skin problems, leading to your skin becoming dehydrated, and your capillaries can become damaged.

Generally, the skin should be exfoliated only one to two times per week to help expedite skin cell turnover and boost collagen production without causing damage.

Step 2: Treat Yourself To A Facial Mask
After clearing away all the dead skin on your face, you’re ready for a facial mask. If you’re in the mood to treat yourself, head to the spa! Or you can pamper yourself in the comfort of your home with some sheet masks.

Besides the feel-good effects sheet masks have, there is one for every skin type and skin concern! From brightening dull skin and clearing acne to rehydrating parched skin and delivering anti-aging goodness, one of my favorite brands is My Facetory! As Holy SHEET, do they have a lot of masks. Like this FaceTory Sheet Mask Collection with over 23 sheet masks!

Step 3: Repair Your Moisture Barrier
Did you know that the other main threat to the skin barrier comes from our skincare products, such as cleansers and over-exfoliating? WHAT???? Hence, the final step in removing dead skin is applying a high-quality anti-aging cream that supports the skin barrier.

Without writing a book here, our skin barrier is SO essential. It is like a little coat of armor surrounding the skin to protect it from the outside world.

The key is to look for products with ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and probiotics! Even transformative Growth Factors for powerful barrier support and deep moisturization for healthy glowing skin!

Step 4: UV-free LED Light Therapy
With so much beauty blossoming around us, Spring is a time of healing and renewed growth. That’s why I recommend some LED facial therapy.  Light therapy treatments use different colored light wavelengths to stimulate the skin tissue. I prefer something that offers many benefits like the NURI LED thermal system that combines the power of 4 technologies in ONE device.

This skincare tool uses UV-free LED light therapy, thermal technology, ionic technology, and sonic vibrations.

Each light modes offers various benefits...

💙Blue helps fight acne, acne scars, and other skin imperfections

💚Green boosts collagen

❤️Red offers anti-aging

💜Purple repairs damaged skin, age spots, and toxin eliminations

spring botox deals, barbies beauty bits

Step 5: Let Your Beauty Bloom With Botox Injections
Non-surgical cosmetic treatments for that skin-glowing Spring look are the way to go, and Botox is a great way to soften your look for Spring!

Many people tend to wear less makeup during the warmer months, and Botox injections can help to rejuvenate your natural appearance. Skin with deeper wrinkles due to sun damage or other factors may require a more intensive treatment plan, of which Botox is a part. Often they are combined with dermal fillers.

And no worries, as the treatment, only takes about 20 minutes with little downtime and minimal pain.

80 20 rule applied to skincare, barbies beauty bits

Step 6: Rock Your Skincare Routine With The 80/20 Rule
Did you know that 80% of your skincare results are actually from your home skincare regimen? What? Yeah, I know many of you are probably a bit surprised to hear this, so let me explain this using the 80/20 law of the vital few or the Pareto principle.

You've probably heard about this 80/20 concept when it comes to working out and your diet. Where 80% of your results come from the foods you eat, while 20% is from working out.

I love this concept, as you can apply it to anything in life, including the health of your skin and skincare goals.

This principle goes like this in skincare, where 80% of the results will depend on your at-home skincare routine and 20% on professional skincare treatments as BOTH play a vital role in healthy skin. Like anything in life, the key here for it to be successful is consistency.

So there you have it, beauties. Barbie's Beauty Bits Beauty Treatments To Restore Your Skin’s Beauty. Until next time!

Reveal That Younger Looking Skin With These Top Anti-aging Tips

Reveal That Younger Looking Skin With These Top Antiaging Tips With Reviv Serums, Ultimate Serum and Barbies Beauty bits

When people hear the word anti-aging, a lot think of someone in their forties, but that is further from the truth.  As when it comes to preventing wrinkles, damaged skin, lackluster complexion and more, making smart lifestyle approaches is what can really help your skin from aging before its time.

So, if you want to find out how to reveal that younger looking skin than continue reading!

Reviv Serums, Ultimate Serum Review By Barbies Beauty Bits

Skincare Products
I am starting with the first one most are curious about which is skincare products. I have tried a lot of skincare products, and while skincare and anti-aging can be a blog post on its own, I am going to share with you one of my all-time favorite skincare products which is Reviv Serums, Ultimate Serum. When selecting a great skincare product, you want to look for ones that have antioxidants, skin replenishing and restoring ingredients as well as humectants & moisturizers and this serum has that and more!

The Reviv Ultimate Serum is not only my favorite because of the results that I get but also because it is a product that addresses every concern of aging skin and is the ultimate rejuvenator; an all in one skincare serum...Oops, actually eleven!

The Reviv Ultimate Serum is 11 different products in one:
    • A brightening product
    • An antioxidant serum
    • A firming and tightening product
    • An anti-inflammatory
    • A peptide serum
    • A green tea complex product
    • A vitamin C serum
    • A sebum controller
    • A collagen stimulator serum
    • A growth factor serum
    • A moisturizer and light emollient
Additionally, it contains PhytoCellTec stem cells, growth factors, peptides, tripeptides, hexapeptides, antioxidants, emollients, sebum-controllers, anti-inflammatories, collagen producers, phytosterols, glycolipids, and polyphenols, making it stand up to its name by being the ultimate cruelty-free, physician recommended skincare product.

      Exfoliating Your Skin
If you want healthy, glowing skin, you should also be exfoliating your dead skin cells! Especially for those that are over thirty, as the process of desquamation slows down, meaning that our body is slower to shed dead skin cells and produce new ones.

This buildup of dead skin cells (regardless of your age) can have an adverse effect on our complexion leaving it looking dry and dull or worse this accumulation can result in excess oil production and clogged pores, which could lead to problematic skin. Additionally, this build of dead, dry skin can not only make you look older than you are, but it creates a barrier for our skincare products. So those serums like the Reviv Ultimate Serum and other products that you're spending all that money on can't get to the fresh new skin which is hidden below this barrier of dead skin cells.

Hence, exfoliation is here to help speed up the process of shedding old skin and making room for new skin to emerge. That is right if you are correctly exfoliating your skin, you do not have to rely on your body’s natural rate of desquamation to keep your complexion looking radiant and beautiful.

Antioxidants food for a more youthful complexion by barbies beauty bits and reviv serums

      Your Diet
You are what you eat is a true statement. While we can indulge, there are some foods that can help with the skin. One important food to add to your diet are foods that are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are a must for a more youthful complexion as they help to protect the skin against free radical in the environment which can lead to premature aging. Why do you ask? Because these environmental factors can break down the collagen and elastin of the skin, causing you to age more quickly.  However, when you have a diet rich in antioxidants, they work to prevent these free radicals from damaging the skin.

Some foods rich in antioxidants, include...
      • Dark Green Vegetables
      • Berries
      • Nuts
      • Sweet Potatoes
      • Whole Grains
      • Fish
Tips on getting plenty of rest for essential for skin renewal by barbies beauty bits and reviv serums

      Getting Your Beauty Sleep
Getting plenty of rest is essential for skin renewal because as we sleep our skin rests, recovers and renews. There are a few hormones in our body which can help safely with sleep as well as bad.

Let’s start with the good, with melatonin. Not to get too technical here, but I found out that the sleep hormone melatonin begins to rise a few hours before bedtime as we start to wind down. This hormone not only helps with making us sleepy, but it also helps to fight those skin-damaging environmental factors we have exposed ourselves to during the day, hence repairing our complexion as we sleep.

On the other hand, with a lack of sleep the stress hormone cortisol, can cause skin collagen to break down causing the skin to lose its elasticity, firmness, smoothness and more.  Yes, a lack of sleep not only can affect your physical appearance instantly but can have a long-term negative impact as well.

Getting the correct hours of sleep is also essential. The goal is to have 6-8 hours of sleep a night as lacking sleep can cause other issues with the skin like dark circles under the eyes and bags! Oh, and don't forget to take your makeup off before you go to bed as makeup can clog your pores which can lead to irritation and blemishes!

Some additional sleeping tips to help with antiaging include sleeping on a silk pillow and sleeping on your back.

How stress can aggravate skin conditions by barbies beauty bits and reviv serums

      Stress
Not only does stress show up in our face, which can potentially aggravate skin conditions and cause premature aging, that physical stress can also cause our body to produce more of that darn stress hormone. And as we mentioned above, it can break down collagen and elastin, ultimately leading to wrinkles! So, find your Zen time!

The importance of water and antiaging by barbies beauty bits

      Drink Plenty Of Water
This is one area I am not great at, the task of drinking 13 glasses of water a day can be daunting.  While I am not dismissing the importance of drinking this many glasses.  If you are like me, you can get some of your needed h20 intake from some of your fruits, vegetables, and some other liquids like green tea.

So, there you have it my top anti-aging tips to help reveal that younger looking skin for people at any age. And remember the best time for a new beginning is NOW, and that goes for your skincare! What The Heck Is Microdermabrasion And Why Do I Need To Add It To My Skincare Routine?

What Is Microdermabrasion And Why Do I Need To Add It To My Skincare Routine By Barbies Beauty Bits

This is my second skincare post in my "What The Heck" series and today I am going to be talking briefly about Microdermabrasion and why it should be added to your skincare routine. But before we get into that I wanted to first start off by letting you know that there are a few forms of microdermabrasion, those that are an actual procedure performed in a medical office and those devices that are sold for in-home use that can offer many similar benefits of exfoliation.

The devices used for Microdermabrasion procedures performed by a medical professional are much more powerful and precise and penetrate deeper into the skin. While these are a wonderful luxury, they are just that and can be costly, therefore at home microdermabrasion devices can be your answer, especially if you are on a budget.

The Michael Todd Beauty Total Refresher 3-in-1 Derm Rejuvenation System Microdermabrasion By Barbies Beauty Bits

Why Do I Need To Add Microdermabrasion To My Skincare Routine?

No matter which option you choose, if you want healthy, glowing skin, you should be exfoliating! You see as we age our cellular turnover slows down, meaning that our body is slower to shed dead skin cells and produce new ones.

This buildup of dead skin cells can have a negative impact on our skin leaving it looking dry and dull, or worse this accumulation can result in excess oil production and clogged pores, which could lead to problematic skin.

Additionally, this build of dead, dull skin can highlight any imperfections on your complexion, and sometimes can create false wrinkles and no one wants that. Furthermore, if you are not removing your dead skin cells, it will create a barrier for your skincare products. So those expensive serums and creams that you’re spending all that money on can’t get to the fresh new skin which is hidden below this barrier of dead skin cells.

Hence, Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure that mechanically exfoliates that outermost layer of dead skin cells (the stratum corneum) helping to speed up the process of shedding old skin and making room for new skin to emerge.

That is right if you are continually exfoliating your skin, you do not have to rely on your body’s natural rate of desquamation to keep your complexion looking radiant and beautiful. As when you are removing that outermost layer of dead skin cells, your body interprets it as an injury, so it quickly replaces the lost skin cells with healthy new ones.

A microdermabrasion device not only buffs away that dead skin, but it also polishes and refines the skin's texture using a diamond-encrusted tip or fine crystals. Furthermore, some at home devices have an added suction, and when the wand touches the skin, a vacuum is created to gently but effectively rejuvenate for softer, smoother, younger-looking, radiant skin.

      Other benefits are...
      • Help to diminish fine lines and wrinkles.
      • Minimize and unclog pores.
      • Aid in reducing the appearance of age spots and other sun damage.
      • Stimulate blood flow to help improve the skin's elasticity.
      • Microdermabrasion can aid in the penetration of skincare products by up to 50%.
While Microdermabrasion is a wonderful thing to add to your skin routine, it is not something I would recommend if you have skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, widespread acne and fragile or broken capillaries.  In cases like this stay away from home devices and seek medical advice first!

Now before I started doing this, the idea scared me as all I could think about, was will this make my peach fuzz, and yes we all have hair on our face, grow back thick, dark or coarse?  The answer is no it will not. Secondly, while I do work in the skincare industry, I did want to make sure that I was doing this correctly, so I did consult with a professional on this first. Now before I get into how to do this, I want to explain the reasoning behind it.

Shaving your entire face helps to soften the surface irregularities by mildly exfoliating the top layer of dead skin cells more thoroughly than say with a facial scrub and it is less abrasive than microdermabrasion. It can also contribute to getting rid of the vellus hairs (peach fuzz) that we all have, which on some people can make their complexion a bit dull.

Furthermore, exfoliating your face by shaving also stimulates your skin to produce new skin cells and collagen (whenever there’s trauma to the skin, collagen is stimulated to help cell renewal), which gives your complexion a smoother radiant appearance. It can also, according to my sources, soften the appearance of fine lines by removing the layer of dead skin which contained them.

Lastly, shaving your face helps the active ingredients in your skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, making them more effective as well as promoting cellular turnover, AKA encouraging new cells to surface. And of course, makeup application is FLAWLESS!

      How To Shave Your Face
Shaving your entire face is something that you can do in the comfort of your own home, and all you need is a few products, and you are on your way to the younger looking skin.
      1. You want to cleanse your skin with a non-medicated cleanser thoroughly.
      2. Lather your face with shaving cream or in my case I prefer to use Skinlogics Foaming Cleanser as a shaving cream can be a bit drying for me.
      3. Using a QUALITY razor you want to SHAVE YOUR ENTIRE FACE, I prefer to do it in sections starting from my forehead, to my checks, and moving my way down.  You can even shave your neck, as none of us want turkey neck as we get older.
      4. You can shave in any direction, but make sure you are careful and paying attention as you don’t want to cut yourself, nor do you want any razor burns. Lastly, you don’t want to accidentally shave off some eyebrow hairs or get too close to your hairline, so do this in front of a mirror.
      5. Rinse with warm water and remove the cream, I prefer to use my makeup eraser for this, but you can use any clean cloth.
      6. Apply your regular skincare products, starting with the ones with the active ingredients first.
      7. Finish with applying a UVA/UVB moisturizer.

      Makeup Tips For Aging Skin

Makeup Tips For Aging Skin by Barbie's Beauty Bits

There are a few things that are inevitable in life and getting older is one of them.  But, making ourselves look older than we are after our teens is something we should not be doing.

It is natural to want to use makeup to hide some of our imperfections and aging skin. But you want to make sure you are going about it the correct way, and I'm here today to share with you a few makeup tips for aging skin.

As we get older, our skin loses collagen: this is what contributes to sagging skin.  Unfortunately, makeup can sit in these area’s, highlighting those imperfections as well as creating false wrinkles. YUKO, who wants more lines than we already have?!

So What Should You Be Doing?

      Prep The Skin & Skincare
      • You first want to start with prepping the skin, by washing and moisturizing. Without proper skincare and prep, your makeup will fail you.  Also, keep in mind, that your topical treatment, along with your moisturizer, should be applied each morning and before bed each night to protect, nourish and maintain hydration.
Use A Moisturizer With An SPF Daily
      • A moisturizer is vital to properly restore hydration balance to the skin's surface. Proper hydration improves firmness and revitalizes tone and texture.   Furthermore, if you get a moisturizer with an SPF, you will save yourself time and money! A great moisturizer will help to plump up your fine lines and more, so never leave home without it.

      Correctly Applying Your Skincare Product
      • There are so many wrinkle and line formations on our face, so attention to detail is essential.  When it comes to applying your skincare product, you want to use a circular motion focusing on the lines and wrinkled area.  AVOID pulling and tugging on the skin.
Adding A Prescription Retinoid To Your Skincare Regimen Skincare
      • Experts recommend: "Adding a prescription retinoid to your skin-care regimen.  This will help to smooth sun-damaged skin, clear up brown spots, and reduce other visible signs of aging."
      • Retinoids are the most documented and scientifically proven de-agers.
      • Over time retinoids can stimulate collagen production and increase the skin's water content. This helps to prevent sagging.
      Exfoliation
      • Proper exfoliation removes dead skin build up and stimulates cellular turnover while making your skin look brightly polished and radiant.  If you don’t find a product to help remove the dead skin,  your face will start looking dull, dry and OLD! I recommend the Soniclear by Michael Todd Beauty, as it helps you to look younger while getting older!

      Primer
      •  Similar to the primer that you would apply to a wall before painting, you want to do the same with your eyes and face.  Makeup primer allows the color to adhere better, last longer, with little transparency and minimal fading.  Also, if you have an excellent primer, it will prevent creasing and false wrinkles.

       Coverup
      • Don’t cover yourself with a foundation.
      • You want to avoid matte formulas as they can make your skin look dry, instead, use an opaque product to cover the broken capillaries and damaged areas.
      • BB Creams and tinted moisturizers are amazing.
      • Use the correct color.  Choosing the wrong color is bad at any age, but with older skin, the goal is to minimize. When selecting a color you want to make sure you are staying as close as possible to your natural skin color.
        • Test the product correctly, by applying it to your clean, makeup free face. NOT your under arm area that you've been told for years!
      Blush
      • When it comes to blush, you want to make sure that you are mimicking your skin.  Natural radiant skin is the goal.
      • Cream blushes are great for maturing skin as they are more moisturizing.
      • Make sure to apply in a circular motion to avoid a streaking look.
      • Stay away from contouring and bronzers. This will make you look like you some skin discolorations and draw attention to your aging skin.

       Lipstick
      • Avoid dark lipsticks as well as glossy ones as they can slide into your lip lines, giving that feathering appearance.
      • Dark lipsticks also make your lips look smaller.
      • Go for a moisturizing lipstick.
       Eyeshadow
      • Stay away from frosted eyeshadows. Instead, you want to look for softer shades.
      • Heavily pigmented shadows as well as frosted or glitter can emphasize the wrinkled thin eye area.
      • Neutrals are king for you.
       Eyeliner
      • You want to avoid dark eyeliner as it can make your eyes looking droopy. Instead, try using a gel eyeliner.  You also will get a more even application, and it glides on smoother.
      • Try applying in a thin line.  Too thick of an application can age you.
